What You Need to Know if You Suffer From a Duodenal UlcerMany myths have surrounded the phenomenon known as the duodenal ulcer for many years. It seems that almost everyone has some different idea about what causes them – and some of those theories are correct while others are, quite simply, hogwash. If you suffer from a duodenal ulcer, then you owe it to yourself to separate the facts from the fiction about these painful stomach legions, and now is as good of a time as any to get all of the facts straight. Chances are that you have heard any number of different rumors about what causes a duodenal ulcer. People have probably told you it was from eating spicy foods, taking too much aspirin or aspirin derivative medications, from being too stressed or from smoking. While all of these theories seem like good ones, and may actually be part of the underlying cause of your duodenal ulcer, the fact of the matter is that none of them actually played a direct role in the formation of your duodenal ulcer. Instead, you only have one tiny bacterium to blame. About 25 years ago, most of the other theorized causes of duodenal ulcers were phased out by the work of two scientists in Australia. However, it took fifteen years and a massive public health campaign to finally change the minds of many of the doctors of the time as to the real cause of a duodenal ulcer. Luckily enough many doctors are now open to the idea that bacteria do in fact cause the painful duodenal ulcer. What does that mean to you? Well, it means that the once untreatable duodenal ulcer can now easily be treated with a series of different antibiotics, significantly shrinking the time you have to suffer with your stomach ulcer from months or years down to mere weeks. So, the next time you find yourself with a duodenal ulcer and your doctor says he cannot do anything to treat it, you should be sure to tell him to give you some antibiotics – as they will make you well again in no time.
