Symptoms And Treatment Of The Venous Stasis Ulcer

Undoubtedly the worst type of injuries are those sustained on the knee or ankle. This is because when an injury does occur on these joints, life can become pretty limited as mobility is decreased. If you break an arm, you can sling it up and continue with life, not quite as easy when the damage is done to the leg. The worst part is, an ankle injury is very susceptible to the venous ulcer, which is a very difficult complication to have to deal with.

When the veins above the ankle sustain damage, the skin can start appear to start to decompose. This horrible appearance is actually the start of the venous ulcer. The veins in and around the injury has a reduced circulation of blood, causing the venous ulcer to appear.

Are there any positives to having an ulcer, well in a manner of speaking. The venous ulcer can disappear with no treatment whatsoever. Of course, it is advised not to just watch it grow and then shrink, if a venous ulcer does appear, clean bandages should immediately be applied, and then replaced every day or so to reduce the risk of infection. If infection were to occur then the venous ulcer will only get worse and medical attention must be sought. If the condition is allowed to worsen further, the only successful treatment would be surgery.

It is of course hoped that the venous ulcer is not allowed to reach such levels of critical damage and if the ulcer is kept bandaged and clean, with the legs elevated then hopefully, no serious or sever treatment will be required.
